Meet Dr. Ramon Coronado

Ph.D., LCSW, MPA | Educator • Therapist • Advocate

📍 South Central Los Angeles Native | First-Gen Scholar | Mental Health Advocate

I’m Dr. Ramon Coronado, a first-generation Latino born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. My journey began as a high school dropout who earned my GED at age 20—a pivotal moment that shaped my lifelong commitment to education, mental health, and advocacy.

I hold a Ph.D. in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University, where my research focused on mental health in higher education. I also earned a Master of Social Work from CSU Long Beach, a Master of Public Administration from Cal Poly Pomona, and a bachelor’s in psychology from Vanguard University.

My Story

With over eight years of experience teaching graduate and undergraduate social work courses, I bring a diverse and dynamic background to both the classroom and clinical practice. My work spans Head Start programs, counseling emotionally disturbed youth, psychiatric care, and consulting on integrated healthcare policies.

As a former clinical director of a psychiatric hospital, I developed internship programs that supported students from nine universities—earning recognition as Field Instructor of the Year, Field Placement of the Year, and Employee of the Year.

I’m passionate about supporting First Gen students and have served as a mentor in the “I Am First” program, a Student Success Coach, and a Certified Life and Wellbeing Coach. I’m also trained in domestic violence counseling.

Whether I’m teaching, mentoring, or providing therapy, I strive to make knowledge accessible and engaging. I believe in creating spaces where individuals feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.
